What's artificial marble?
Artificial marble is a engineered stone that also well known as cultured marble or engineered marble, it is a composite material made by blending natural marble powder or calcium carbonate, polyester resin, and pigments, then casting and polishing the mixture into slabs or molded shapes. Its controlled composition allows consistent color, pedictable textures, and flexible design options.
Advantages:
Artificial marble is cost-effective, lightweight, and easy to fabricate. Its non-porous surface offers good stain resistance and requires minimal maintenance compared to natural marble. Because it is cast in molds, it can achieve integrated basins, curved forms, and seamless designs that natural stone cannot provide.
Limitations:
The material has lower hardness, scratch resistance, and heat resistance than natural marble or quartz. It may develop surface wear, dullness, or yellowing over time. The "stone look" is visually uniform, but it lacks the depth and natural variation that high-end stone buyers expect. Quality also varies significantly between manufacturers depending on resin content, powder purity, and curing techniques.
Maintenance of Artificial Marble
Artificial marble is relatively easy to care for, but proper maintenance is essential to preserve its appearance. Daily cleaning only requires a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads or strong alkaline/acidic cleaners, as these can scratch or dull the resin-based surface. Spills should be wiped promptly to prevent discoloration, and hot cookware or heat sources should not be placed directly on the surface to avoid thermal damage.
For long-term upkeep, light surface scratches can usually be buffed or polished using fine-grit polishing compounds, depending on the product's formulation. However, deep scratches, chemical burns, or UV-induced yellowing may require professional refinishing.
Applications:
Bathroom vanities, shower walls, integrated sinks, wall panels, commercial counters, retail fixtures, and interior decorative surfaces-especially where design flexibility and controlled cost matter.
